Woman's body found in field as police probe 'unexplained' death

Police have cordoned off a street near a field where a woman's body has been found.

Merseyside Police surrounded the area in Rainhill near St Helens after receiving a call at 8.35am this morning (October 20), the ECHO reports. Once police arrived at the scene, they found the body of a woman.

The death is being treated as unexplained with police saying there are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances. According to witnesses at the scene, Dee Road have been cordoned off while Stoney Lane is reportedly closed in both directions.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm officers were called to a field near Stoney Lane/Hemmingsway in Rainhill this morning, Sunday October 20, following the sad discovery of the body of a woman.

"Officers were contacted by a member of the public at just after 8.35am. At this time the death is being treated as unexplained but there are not currently believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

"Enquiries are ongoing to formally identify the woman and inform her next of kin."
