Woman in hospital with face, neck and arm bite wounds after savage dog attack
A woman was rushed to hospital with bite wounds to her face, neck and arms after a savage dog attack.
The dog is understood to be a pit bull breed and a man has been arrested on suspicion of owning a banned breed.
Police on Merseyside tonight confirmed officers were called to a house on Orrets Meadow Road on the Woodchurch Estate, Birkenhead, Wirral, at 5.30pm after receiving reports a woman, in her 50s, had been attacked.

A man also suffered injuries to his hand during the incident, police added, reports the Echo.
The woman was taken to hospital following the attack for treatment for her injuries. The man was treated at the scene.
The dog is believed to be a pit bull type breed. A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of owning a banned breed and having a dog dangerously out of control.
A police investigation is underway, and house-to-house enquiries were carried out in the local area.
People living in the local area said they saw a large police and ambulance presence in the area this evening.
