Woman dead after suffering 'multiple wounds' as murder probe opened in Bury

A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead with "multiple wounds" in Bury.

The 35-year-old, who has not yet been named, was discovered at a property on Walnut Avenue, to the east of the town centre last night (September 6) Officers from Greater Manchester Police attended after receiving "reports of a concern for welfare" at around 10:30pm.

On arrival, they found the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made.

Detectives have "identified a suspect who they believe was involved", GMP said.

A spokesperson for the force added: "However, they do not pose a threat to the wider community at this time and officers are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."

The street remains taped off with officers in white forensic suits have been combing the scene for clues. Officers have been stationed outside a property on the street.

The woman's family has been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Patrols will be increased in the area to "to reassure residents and offer assistance" GMP said.

Detective Inspector Matthew Hamer, from the force's Major Incident Team, said: “First and foremost I want to pass my condolences onto the family of the woman, who are being supported by our officers are this devastating time.
