Woman arrested on suspicion of child neglect after baby rushed to hospital in Middleton

A teenager has been arrested after a child was taken to hospital in Middleton. Police were called to a property on Windermere Road, in the Langley, on Sunday after a report of 'concern for the welfare' of a child.

Both police and paramedics attended, and a one-year-old baby girl was taken to hospital. Her current condition is not known. A 19-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed.

No further details about the incident have been released. Locals said there was a large emergency service presence close to a block of flats where Windermere Road meets Bowness Road on Sunday.

There were two ambulances and numerous police vehicles, one eyewitness said. Specialist crime scene investigation (CSI) officers had then been spotted at the scene today (Tuesday, February 12) they added.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "On Sunday 9 February shortly after 2.30pm we received reports of a concern for welfare of a child at an address in Middleton. Officers attended along with paramedics and a one-year-old child was taken to hospital.

"A 19-year-old female has been arrested and remains in police custody for questioning."
