Woman, 65, arrested after police notice 'suspicious activity' from car

A 65-year-old woman was arrested after police noticed 'suspicious activity' from a car in Eccles. Officers out on patrol on Tuesday (August 16) stopped a vehicle and found cannabis, cash, a phone, and a 'weapon' inside, police said.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

Following a house search in the nearby area, a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs. Suspected cocaine, as well as cannabis, several mobile phones and car keys were seized from the house.

Greater Manchester Police said both suspects remain in custody whilst enquiries continue.

Inspector Jon Ezard said, “These seizures not only mean suspected drugs have been removed from the streets, but also a weapon which had the capability to significantly injure someone if used. We are continuing to support local teams across the force area in a bid to reduce knife crime, and other related offences.

“If you know that someone in your local area is carrying a knife or weapon, I urge you to report it to us. Weapons do not protect you and are statistically more likely to be used on yourself. Help us get them off the streets.”

Reports can be made by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, please report to independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
