Woman, 37, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after man left fighting for life in park attack

A 37-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was left fighting for his life in an attack in a park in Old Trafford on Monday (September 12). At around 3pm in the afternoon police had received a report from the public of a serious assault in Penn Park, Old Trafford.

Emergency services attended a man was rushed to hospital. He still remains there for treatment to what is believed to be life threatening injuries.

An investigation was launched and a woman has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. She remains in custody for questioning at this time.

Prior to the arrest, detectives with Greater Manchester Police launched an investigation and appealed for witnesses of the incident to come forward. Detective Inspector Chris Mannion of GMP’s Complex Safeguarding Team in Trafford said: "This is a sickening attack on an individual that has left him with some horrific and ultimately life changing injuries."

"We would like to hear from anyone in or around the local area on Monday to understand if they saw or heard anything leading up to the call we received in the afternoon regarding the welfare of a man. We have been working around the clock this week to unpick the circumstances regarding this serious assault and will continue to explore all available lines of enquiry over the coming days."

Anyone with information that may help detectives are asked to call 0161 856 7525 or 101 quoting log number 1983 of the 12/09/22. Alternatively details can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
