Wolves run-in compared to Man Utd, West Ham, Arsenal & Tottenham as Bruno Lage gets reprieve

Wolverhampton Wanderers squandered the chance to end the weekend sixth in the Premier League with defeat to Newcastle United on Friday night.

Injury-hit Wolves fell to a 1-0 defeat on Tyneside as Chris Wood's penalty inflicted a fifth loss in eight games on the Molineux men. It wasn't a disastrous weekend for Wolves though, with European rivals Manchester United, West Ham and Arsenal all falling to defeats too.

Fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur continued their strong run of form with a 4-0 win at Aston Villa but, crucially, Wolves are still just two points behind sixth-placed West Ham with six games remaining. Here is how the land lies in the race for the top seven...

Wolves can't afford any more slip ups after the defeat to Newcastle. Of the six teams Wolves still have left to face, only top two Liverpool and Manchester City have inflicted narrow defeats on them.

Maximum points will be needed from Burnley, Brighton and Norwich, while Wolves will probably need something from their trip to Stamford Bridge on May 7 too. If they are still in the race by the time they face Liverpool and Manchester City, which needs to be rearranged, points will be required against the top two.
