Final fixtures compared as Wolves, West Ham and Man Utd all slip up in European race

The European race has split, leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham and Manchester United fighting it out for the final two spots.

Tottenham and Arsenal have pulled clear of the pack, so Wolves, West Ham and United are now fighting it out for sixth and seventh positions in the Premier League. Sixth spot guarantees Europa League football, whereas seventh means a place in next season's Europa Conference League.

All three of the teams in contention lost at the weekend. United lost to Arsenal on Saturday, while West Ham lost 1-0 at Chelsea on Sunday to match Wolves' dismal defeat to Burnley. Bruno Lage's Wolves have now lost six of their last nine matches in the Premier League.

The only saving grace for Wolves is that their two main rivals are in equally woeful form. Here's how the final run-ins look on paper...

If you had offered Wolves their current points total and position with five games to go after three straight Premier League defeats in August, Lage would have snapped your hand off. But Wolves have had so many chances to find themselves in a much higher position that frustration levels are soaring amongst supporters.

Wolves have five games to play - and three of those matches come against the top three Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea. Two home games against Brighton and Norwich City are must win, but Wolves have already failed to beat the Championship-bound Canaries twice this season.
