Bruno Lage reveals what he has ‘heard’ about transfers in exciting pitch to Wolves targets

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ newfound swagger under Bruno Lage is key to bringing in higher quality players in the transfer market.

That is what Lage has been told by recruitment chief Mathew Hobbs, who is already actioning the summer plans given to him by the Wolves head coach two months ago. Wolves are looking to reinforce several key areas in the next window, including midfield due to the uncertain futures of talisman Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.

Wolves have closed the gap on the top four this season and could yet finish inside the European places. But Lage knows Wolves must keep improving the squad to fend off the big-spending clubs below them in the Premier League table.

“It’s hard for us,” Lage admitted. “We are now at a level where we need the right players to put us on a different level, at the right price. And also we need to convince them to come here. In the end we need to bring these players to live in Wolverhampton to work with us and help us to be better. We need to find the player and when you find him, he has maybe 10 or 12 proposals and we need to convince him that we have the best project for him and his career.”

The noises Lage is hearing from chief scout Hobbs and his team have been positive heading into the summer window. The Portuguese believes Wolves is now an attractive club to top-level players.

“Every time I talk with Mathew Hobbs, there is a feeling now that the good players who come to us, come because of the way we have been performing,” Lage continued. “When we are trying to play the game with the ball it can motivate the players. Sometimes it’s difficult, but we must try to do that.
