Wolves: Lage facing 'big problem' at Molineux he 'can't do anything about'

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ current injury crisis at right wing-back is a ‘big problem’ that they ‘really could have done without’, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Midlands outfit have seen both Nelson Semedo and Ki-Jana Hoever ruled out with hamstring issues over the last couple of weeks, leaving manager Bruno Lage with some tricky decisions to make.

First-choice full-back Semedo had been in fine form this season, starting 23 of Wolves’ opening 25 Premier League games.

However, the Portugal international had to leave the field of play just after the hour mark against Arsenal and has since been ruled out for up to eight weeks following some scans.

Semedo’s back-up Hoever deputised in the 1-0 defeat to West Ham United, featuring from the off on just the third occasion in the top-flight this term.

But his stint in the starting XI proved to be short-lived as he had to be helped off the pitch in the first half against Crystal Palace last time out, much to the annoyance of Lage.

“Ki is a good example of the young kids that want everything but don’t train at the intensity they need or prepare themselves enough,” said the Portuguese tactician in his post-match interview.

“I have too many kids in my team that don’t work the way they should, that don’t prepare the way they should. Injuries can happen, but this one happened because he’s not prepared. I don’t waste time with guys who don’t work hard.”

Wolves had looked on course to challenge for a Champions League spot until a run of three consecutive defeats significantly dented their hopes of a top-four finish.
