Wolves: Bruno Lage facing 'big problem' at Molineux this summer

Wolves manager Bruno Lage needs to be backed by the club’s board this summer to prevent things from turning sour at Molineux, claims Midlands journalist Josh Holland.

The Premier League outfit have been relatively quiet in the transfer market since Lage arrived last year, but Holland thinks that will have to change to keep the Portuguese boss happy.

Wolves made five signings last summer who are part of their current first-team.

Jose Sa has been the standout addition to the team, ensuring that Rui Patricio has not been missed, while Hee-chan Hwang has shown some promising signs, particularly in the early stages of the season.

Meanwhile, Rayan Ait-Nouri made his temporary switch a permanent one, but has only been on the fringes of the side this term. Trincao and Yerson Mosquera have both failed to make the desired impact at their new club.

Overall, Wolves spent less than £25m on these five players, and then did not strengthen their squad in January.

Holland believes things could start to go wrong for Wolves if Lage does not get support from the club’s hierarchy when the transfer window opens.

Talking about the prospect of Lage being given very little money to spend, Holland told GIVEMESPORT: “I think that’s a big problem. If Bruno Lage doesn’t get backed, how long is he going to wait for? He’s obviously been told he’s going to get backed, and he’s not.

“In January, he said he wanted signings, and I don’t think they brought any in. They just let Traore go. So, I think it could turn a bit sour at Wolves.”

This summer could be a significant one of the Midlands-based club.
