Wolves: 32 y/o star ‘high on the list’ for January move to Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers will still have West Ham United centre-back Craig Dawson ‘high on their list’ once the January transfer window opens, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Fosun spent over £120 million on new signings in the summer transfer window but further investment could be made in the wake of Bruno Lage’s sacking.

According to The Athletic, Wolves had agreed a £4 million transfer fee with the Hammers for the services of the 32-year-old on deadline day, with the player eager to move back to the Midlands for personal reasons.

However, the report adds that the move depended on West Ham signing a replacement and Dawson’s transfer was called off after Aston Villa won the race for Southampton’s Jan Bednarek.

After the saga, David Moyes insisted he had no concerns over the player’s commitment while Declan Rice said he was ‘delighted’ to see the veteran stay.

But with Dawson’s £52,000 per-week contract set to expire next summer, West Ham could still sanction an exit in the January window.

Wolves are currently on the hunt for a new manager at Molineux, with Sevilla’s former boss Julen Lopetegui the current frontrunner.

But the journalist believes that, regardless of who takes over, Dawson will remain high on the club’s wishlist going forward.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think it’s a position that they will definitely look to strengthen again in January. I’m sure Dawson will be pretty high on the list of targets.”
