Wolff & Horner react as Italian GP ends behind Safety Car amid Abu Dhabi comparisons

Toto Wolff and Christian Horner have both given their thoughts on the Italian Grand Prix ending behind the Safety Car.

Max Verstappen took victory in Monza ahead of Charles Leclerc, though we were denied a grandstand finish as the race ended behind the Safety Car.

Daniel Ricciardo’s stricken McLaren took a considerable amount of time to be removed from the track and the stewards opted to deal with the situation under waved yellows and the Safety Car, meaning the final laps of the race ticked down without any more action.

Of course, it’s always a shame when a race ends in such circumstances as it can feel a little sterile but those are ultimately the rules of the sport in such a situation, and what played out was correct.

Now, of course, what we have seen pretty quickly after the chequered flag at Monza is many bringing up Abu Dhabi and what happened there in 2021, perhaps unsurprisingly, and both Toto Wolff and Christian Horner have had their say on the matter.

“The race director’s call will be criticised,” Wolff said to Sky after the race.
