Wishaw 'running out of time' but boss hopes for redeeming run
Wishaw boss Martin O’Neill says luck has deserted his side and admits they’re running out of games to save their West of Scotland Second Division status.
But the Beltane Park gaffer insists they must believe that they can go on a run that pulls them out of trouble.
A 3-2 defeat at home to Craigmark Burntonians on Saturday has left Wishaw bottom of the table, level on 12 points with Glasgow University, and 10 points off St Anthony’s and safety, with eight games remaining.
O’Neill said: “We’re just getting no luck in front of goal, and the opposition are getting the luck instead.
“That just comes with the territory, but to be fair, the boys are giving us everything.
“In spells in the game they’re excellent, they’re doing extremely well, but we’re just not getting the breaks at all.
“Maybe you could say we’ve got to take our chances and be a wee bit more efficient in front of goal, but we have no complaints, in terms of what the boys are giving us.
“It looks like we might be running out of games.
“If you look at our last three results – 2-2, 3-2, 3-3 – you can tell even just with the results, without looking at the performances, that we’re really close to getting points.
“Games are running out unfortunately, but we won’t give up.
“It’s going to be difficult, but we’ve got to believe that the next game is going to give us the catalyst and the confidence to push on.
“Unfortunately we’ve got a break for a couple of weeks, which doesn’t help.”
Wishaw are next in league action against rivals Glasgow University at Airdrie’s New Broomfield stadium on March 23, and O’Neill admits it’s a ‘six-pointer’.
