Wishaw boss will be 'glad to see end of season' after side secure safety

Wishaw boss David Dunn admits he will be glad to see the back of this season after managing to secure survival in the West of Scotland Second Division with two games to spare.

And he admits he is disappointed his side found themselves in a relegation battle instead of challenging at the top end of the table this term.

Wishy won 3-1 at home to Greenock on Saturday to stay up and relegate their rivals, courtesy of goals from Connor Docherty, Kieran Brannan and Oliver Grenfell.

The worst they can now finish is 13th in the 16-team division, with Ardeer, Greenock and Glasgow United all going down, and Dunn said: “I’m glad to get it done.

“I was always confident that we would but we had a few bumps along the way.

”There were a few moments we didn’t expect, but it has been a tremendous effort from everyone.

“Losing 5-0 at home to Ardeer [in April], a lot of folk had written us off, but the response to that has been great.

“That’s five from eight we’ve won, so it’s unbelievable. It has been a great effort and I can’t wait for the season to be finished now. I think we should be aiming a lot higher.

“I am happy we have stayed up but in the back of my mind is a bit of disappointment that we’ve been down in this situation.

“It’s a great end to the season in terms of results. The squad has changed quite a lot from the start of the season and a lot of the younger players have come in and done well, but the experienced boys have really carried us.

“The likes of Mark Canning coming in, Kieran Brannan, Steven McGurgan – they have all been excellent and helped the younger ones.

“It’s been a real team effort from everyone at the club, including the committee, to keep us in the league.
