Winter Olympics skier suffers ‘unbearable’ pain from ‘frozen penis’ during 50km race

Cross-country skier Remi Lindholm had a Winter Olympics to forget after complaining of a frozen penis during his event in freezing conditions in Beijing.

Lindholm came 28th in the men’s 50km mass-start skiing race and needed a heat-pack to warm up one severely sensitive affected area of his body upon finishing the event.

‘You can guess which body part was a little bit frozen when I finished…it was one of the worst competitions I’ve been in,’ he told Finnish media. ‘It was just about battling through.

‘When the body parts started to warm up after the finish, the pain was unbearable.’

Skiers are often seen wearing skin-tight outfits that give them the best advantage when competing but they can offer little protection from the elements.

The bitterly cold weather had already seen Games organisers reduce the 50km race to 30km to reduce the amount of time skiers would spend in the harsh conditions.

Lindholm spent just under an hour and 16 minutes completing his race with his private parts suffering as a result and this was not the first time he’s ended up in this unfortunate situation – he had a similar incident in Ruka, Finland last year.

The race was won by Russian Olympic Committee athlete Alexander Bolshunov, who secured a third cross-country skiing gold medal of these Games.

Fellow ROC skier Ivan Yakimushkin took silver, finishing six seconds behind Lindholm, while Norway’s Simen Hegstad Krueger took bronze.

Britain’s Andrew Musgrave came 12th out of the 61-strong field.
