Winter Olympics: Fans delighted as Britain win curling gold with 'fantastic' performance
British fans were left delighted after the women’s curling team earned a gold medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
Britain, represented by skip Eve Muirhead, Vicky Wright, Jen Dodds, and Hailey Duff, thrashed Japan 10-3 in the gold medal match.
Their victory replicated the gold medal won by Rhona Howie’s team at Salt Lake City in 2002.
Muirhead was key to Britain’s success, scoring an impressive four in the seventh end to effectively clinch the title.
The 31-year-old was competing at her fourth Olympics, having experienced a number of near misses at previous Games.
She finished with a bronze medal at Sochi 2014, but lost in the third-place play-off at PyeongChang 2018. Muirhead was also forced to undergo career-saving hip surgery after the Games in South Korea concluded.
After such a long journey to the top of the podium, Muirhead was visibly emotional as she received her gold medal.
