Wings' Paige Bueckers, Azzi Fudd talk relationship on pod - ESPN
Dallas Wings teammates Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers, the past two WNBA No. 1 draft picks, spoke on Fudd's podcast Friday about a variety of topics, including a personal life update.
«We're not together anymore; it's been a while,» Bueckers said on the «Fudd Around and Find Out» podcast. "[We] share that because everybody [was] like, 'Oh my gosh, they're teammates, how is this going to work?'"
Bueckers and Fudd, who were teammates in college at UConn, said they felt the need to address their relationship status in part because of allegations it factored into the Wings picking Fudd at No. 1 in April. Fudd was chosen over TCU guard Olivia Miles, who went on to be the Rookie of the Year for the Minnesota Lynx. Spain's Awa Fam (Seattle Storm) was taken third, followed by teammates from the 2026 champion UCLA Bruins: Lauren Betts (Washington Mystics), Gabriela Jaquez (Chicago Sky) and Kiki Rice (Toronto Tempo).
Fudd, Fam, Betts and Miles were all No. 1 at different points in ESPN's mock draft in the months before the April draft. Bueckers said her previous relationship with Fudd had no impact on Dallas' decision.
«We were not together before she got drafted,» Bueckers said. «She was not drafted because she was my girlfriend. She was drafted because she deserved it. She's an amazing human, an amazing basketball player. And we're still friends, we're still cool.
»We played an entire season together; we're the utmost professionals."
Fudd averaged 13.1 points, but was limited to just 30 games after an injury to her right knee led to season-ending arthroscopic surgery in August. She offered an update on her health.
«My offseason's been good,» Fudd said. «Lots of rehab, lots of training, lots of on-court workouts, lots of traveling.
