Windsor, Ont., to host 4-team World Junior hockey showcase this summer
Windsor is hosting the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase — filled with top NHL prospects.
Joining Team Canada will be Finland, Sweden and the United States.
All in, there will be 10 games held from July 26 to Aug. 1.
The four squads will face off at the WFCU Centre in the southwestern Ontario border city.
The games are in preparation for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship over the Christmas holiday in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alta.
“This showcase gives us the opportunity to continue our player evaluation, build relationships and chemistry amongst players and staff, and set our standards and expectations for our team in a very competitive environment,” said Alan Millar of Hockey Canada.
To illustrate the level of top NHL talent that will be on display, the 2025 edition of the World Junior Summer Showcase in Minnesota featured 104 National Hockey League draft picks, including 34 first-round selections.
“This event brings together some of the best young hockey talent in the world and inspires youth to strive for excellence, while reinforcing Windsor’s strong reputation as a premier destination for sports tourism,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our city to once again be on the international stage, and a testament to the passion our community has for the game of hockey,” said John Savage, governor of the Windsor Spitfires.
