Wimbledon: Andy Murray loves Emma Raducanu doubles idea

British tennis legend Andy Murray has revealed he “would love to” play mixed doubles with Emma Raducanu.

Raducanu told Elle last week that she had a dream of playing alongside Murray at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

“Just once in my life, I’d love to play doubles with Andy Murray at Wimbledon,” she said.

Now, Murray has suggested that this dream could become a reality. Speaking after his first round victory at the Surbiton Trophy, the three-time Grand Slam winner admitted that the partnership had nearly transpired last year.

“Last year we talked about it, but we both ended up doing well in the singles,” he said.

“I would love to play with Emma at some stage. I’m sure we will both focus on having good runs in the singles, but yeah – I’d love to do that.”

Raducanu reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon last year, and was subsequently thrust into the public limelight.

She entered the tournament as a wildcard, progressing to the fourth round after beating Vitalia Diatchenko, Markéta Vondroušová, and Sorana Cîrstea.

The 19-year-old was then forced to withdraw with breathing difficulties from her round of 16 encounter against Ajla Tomljanović. Despite this, Raducanu received immense support from the home crowd during her impressive run.

“Last year, I kind of came out of nowhere and had never experienced anything like it — to have suddenly received all of that was amazing,” she said.

Raducanu used her performances at Wimbledon as a launch pad for the US Open, where she became the first qualifier, male or female, to win a Grand Slam.

She also became the first British woman to secure a Grand Slam title since Virginia Wade in 1977.
