Wilson disaster: Rangers dropped the ball over "unbelievable" £2.2m-rated "class act" - opinion

Rangers have been pretty active in the transfer market over the past few years in terms of spending money on bringing new players into Ibrox as well as moving other players out of the Gers in the opposite direction.

One player that Rangers were linked with that didn’t end up making a move to Ibrox that they will now be regretting is a player currently plying his trade in the second tier of English football.

Back in the previous summer transfer window, Football League World claimed that Rangers were one of the clubs eyeing up Coventry City midfielder Gus Hamer, alongside Premier League sides such as Norwich City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Since arriving at the Championship club from PEC Zwolle back in the January 2020 transfer window, the 24-year-old has gone on to make 78 appearances for Coventry across all competitions, chipping in with eight goals and nine assists along the way.

This season has seen the Dutchman, who has been described as a “class act” by Ali Maxwell, play in 32 league games for his club and find the back of the net three times as well as deliver six assists for his teammates, showing how much of an attacking threat he can be from midfield.

In addition to his very useful goal contributions, the midfielder has racked up a total of 147 crosses, 41 interceptions and 35 tackles won, higher than most players at the club in each statistic, highlighting how much of an all-around midfield figure he is.

Labelled as an “unbelievable” player by Marko Marosi, Hamer has earned himself an overall performance rating of 6.9 from WhoScored, making him the fourth-highest rated player in the Sky Blues’ squad.
