Williams, Raducanu, Federer: 5 players in doubt for Wimbledon this year

This year’s Wimbledon is fast approaching, but a number of the world’s top stars may not feature. 

While the tournament is among the most prestigious in the game, plenty of players may well be absent from the All Egland Club this summer for various reasons. 

The ATP and the WTA have scrapped ranking points for the Grand Slam this year after Russian and Belarusian players were banned from competing –– leading some players to question whether playing is worth it? 

Other superstar names have failed to qualify automatically for the main draw and could be forced to rely on wildcards. 

Some stars are also struggling with injuries and will have to wait on late fitness tests before confirming their participation. 

Here are five players who are doubts for the competition:

It would be a huge shame if Swiatek can’t play at Wimbledon this summer. The world number one is in scintillating form of late and has won a staggering 35 matches in a row. 

The Polish star has claimed six titles in succession and notched her second Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros recently. 

However, the 20-year-old has revealed she is struggling with her shoulder and withdrew from the German Open this week. 

Swiatek has stressed that she hopes to be fit in time for Wimbledon, but with the competition just two weeks away, the Pole will face an anxious race against time. 

Williams is chasing an eighth Wimbledon title and a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam overall. 

The 40-year-old hasn’t played since last year’s event at the All England Club, but teased her return to action earlier this year. 

Yet, the American is not on the entry list for this year’s tournament.
