"Will be slightly worried" - Journalist drops Spurs verdict on £25m ace after recent development

Tottenham‘s Ryan Sessegnon might be “worried” about losing his place in Antonio Conte‘s side next season following the arrival of Ivan Perisic, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 22-year-old established himself as Conte’s first choice left wing-back in the final months of the campaign, but the signing of the experienced Croatia international could put his place under threat.

Having started Spurs’ last six Premier League games, and 10 of the last 12 when fit, Sessegnon established himself as a regular starter for the first time since his £25m arrival from Fulham back in 2019.

But Perisic’s arrival could give the ex-Fulham star food for thought, with the 33-year-old playing as a wing-back more often than not in recent years.

Perisic has spent the majority of his career playing further forward, but when he played under Conte at Inter Milan, he was deployed as one of his two wing-backs, a role which he continued playing despite the Italian’s departure last summer.

And the former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich ace quickly adapted to his new-found position, scoring nine goals, and laying on nine assists in 48 games as a wing-back last season.

Therefore, O’Rourke believes that Sessegnon might be slightly concerned over his own position in the team, despite a strong end to the season, which saw him impress against Liverpool and Arsenal.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “He will be slightly worried, but it all depends on where Antonio Conte sees Perisic playing, he’s such a versatile player.

“He’s obviously been converted into a wing-back in the last couple of seasons at Inter Milan, so Sessegnon might be worried that he’s coming in to play that left wing-back role that he played in the last couple of weeks of the season.”
