Wilfred Ndidi’s one word reaction after World Cup qualification heartbreak

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has given his immediate reaction to Nigeria’s failure to qualify for this year’s World Cup in Qatar.

The Super Eagles came up against Ghana in a two-legged World Cup qualification play-off this week. A 0-0 draw on Friday was followed with a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night, with Ghana going through on away goals.

Both Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho were involved for Nigeria over the two legs, Lookman winning the penalty for Nigeria’s goal in the second leg. Ndidi however was forced to watch from home after injuring his knee in the Europa Conference League clash vs Rennes.

It has been confirmed by Brendan Rodgers that the injury could keep the midfielder out until the end of the season. As he continues his recovery, Ndidi was keeping an eye on how his international teammates were getting on.

Immediately after the full-time whistle, the City man simply tweeted the word ‘wow’ alongside a crying emoji, seemingly showing his disbelief at the result. It’s the first time that Nigeria won’t be at a World Cup since 2006.

It was better news for other City players with Daniel Amartey helping Ghana to overcome his club teammates in the centre of defence. Midfielder Nampalys Mendy also started as Senegal again overcame Egypt on penalties to make it to the finals in what was a repeat of the Africa Cup of Nations final.
