Wigan waiting to hear more on Cade Cust injury says head coach

Wigan head coach Matt Peet says the club are still waiting to hear more on the injury sustained to half-back Cade Cust. 

Cust, 23, left the field during the second half of the Challenge Cup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday. Holding his arm during post-match celebrations, Peet has confirmed that Cust suffered a dislocation. However, the club are waiting to confirm the timeframe on the injury.

“He’s had his scans, so we know roughly on the injury,” said Peet. “He’s yet to see a specialist. We don’t know enough to tell you. It was dislocated and it’s gone back in. We’re not exactly sure on the time frame yet.”

“I wouldn’t want to put a timeframe on it. We’ve got the international break coming up, so certainly not (available) for the next couple of games.”

The Wigan boss also confirmed that skipper Thomas Leuluai won’t feature against Castleford Tigers in Super League this Saturday.

The 36-year-old made a remarkable recovery to return in their Challenge Cup final, playing his part in the 16-14 victory over Huddersfield.

Leuluai was expected to be sidelined for another six-weeks, but made his return from the bench at hooker before coming on to replace the injured Cust. 

“It was always the plan to get him in for one week then let him rest up,” said Peet.

He continued: “I think he could play this week if we needed him to, but I think it’s not smart. He’ll come into contention going forwards.
