Wigan Council cancels Coronation party due to weather forecast and safety concerns

Wigan Council has announced its Coronation event on Bank Holiday Monday will be cancelled due to the weather forecast.

The event was due to be held in Mesnes Park today to celebrate the crowning of the new King and Queen. Following on from the Big Coronation Lunch event held in Leigh yesterday, the Coronation party was set to be full of entertainment, food and drink and family-friendly activities.

But in a post on social media at around 5pm last night, council bosses said the event had to be cancelled due to 'forecasted persistent and heavy rain'. They said the weather will 'cause a challenging and potentially unsafe event environment'.

Events took place in all corners of the city-region including at Leigh Town Hall, Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom and in
