Why Ryan Reynolds won't attend Manchester United vs Wrexham but Rob McElhenney will

Ryan Reynolds will not be in attendance as Wrexham take on Manchester United at San Diego's Snapdragon Stadium.

Reynolds, along with his Hollywood pal Rob McElhenney, bought the Red Dragons in 2021 and since then, the popularity of the club has sky rocketed Stateside. The success of the FX documentary 'Welcome to Wrexham' has certainly helped as the duo introduced an American audience to what was then a fifth tier English club.

However, last season Phil Parkinson's side ended a 15-year wait to return to the Football League as they were crowned champions after a close fought battle with Notts County. In a bid to capitalise on their success across the pond, the North Wales club are currently touring the US to prepare for the 2023/24 campaign.

So far, Wrexham have lost 5-0 to Chelsea but did manage to beat LA Galaxy II 4-0 at the weekend. Reynolds was not in attendance for either game due to work commitments.

Currently, the 46-year-old is in London filming Deadpool 3 and thus is unable to be at Wrexham's match against United. However, co-owner and friend McElhenney will be in the stands to watch his team.

Another notable person in the crowd will be the Reds' boss Erik ten Hag. In his press conference, the Dutchman explained U21s head coach Travis Binnion will be taking charge of the team while Ten Hag 'supports him' from the sidelines.

United have chosen a youthful squad to take on Wrexham with one exception. Centre-back Jonny Evans, who signed a short-term deal before the tour, will be with the team to face the Red Dragons.
