Why NFF is yet to decide on Peseiro’s contract – Gusau

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) president, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has revealed that issues relating to the contract of Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro will be sorted soon.

Gusau said this on Tuesday while speaking to veteran sports journalist Mitchell Obi in an interview on “Sports Salsa” radio show, on Kennis 104.1 FM.

Obi asked Gusau whether Nigerians should be expecting the new coach of the Super Eagles if the contract of Peseiro expires.

“Well, we are still on it and very soon, by the grace of God, Nigerians will hear the voice of the Federation, as far as the coach is concerned,” Gusau said.

“As you know next month, on the 10th of September, we shall have the last match of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers (AFCON) against Sao Tome and Principe.

“Obviously, everything will be concluded, before that time. We hope to conclude very soon and a decision will be made based on the recommendations of the technical committee.”

Gusau was further quizzed on whether the contract of the Super Eagles coach had actually ended, because it was supposed to expire on the 30th of June, 2023.

“It is not supposed to end at the end of June. If you recall, the Nations Cup was supposed to start in June and end in July (2023),” Gusau replied.

“So, the contract is supposed to end by the end of July. By the grace of God, very soon, Nigerians will know the position, because we are still talking with him and his lawyers, on that issue.”
