Why Michael Appleton believes Blackpool's transfer business is worth waiting for

Michael Appleton is keen to ensure Blackpool don't compromise on quality simply to get bodies in the door this transfer window.

The Seasiders are yet to make an addition so far this summer but already have a 25-man squad filled leaving gaps for real quality to improve the current base. With that in mind, Blackpool's new Head Coach would rather wait for that next level of player to become available or for a decision to be made, rather than bring in a player earlier who perhaps wouldn't fit the mould.

Blackpool already missed out on a key target prior to Neil Critchley's departure in Ebou Adams who opted to join Cardiff City rather than move to Bloomfield Road. However, targeting a player of that quality and competing with other Championship clubs showcased that the Seasiders are shopping in the right areas, but patience is fundamental to their approach.

Appleton opened up about the club being close on a couple of players, while it's understood Morgan Rogers is a player the club continue to track having lodged their interest with Manchester City for the talented winger who has also attracted interest from Swansea City. Particularly with the loan market, parent clubs tend to leave decisions later in the window and in that case Appleton is happy to wait in order to ensure the level of quality brought in is the level desired.

"I think it's really important. I can only go back to what happened last season at my previous club where we probably did that, ending up taking players that weren't ready or weren't as good as what we had previously and weren't ready for the level. I'm conscious of that not happening again," Appleton told Lancs Live.
