Why Marcus Rashford was dropped by Man United, striker's response, what next and transfer odds

Marcus Rashford's omission from Manchester United's squad sparked lots of debate from the fanbase and pundits.

The England international was left out of Ruben Amorim's matchday squad along with Alejandro Garnacho. United went on to win the game 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium after Josko Gvardiol's header in the first-half.

Bruno Fernandes put matters level in the 88th minute, making no mistake from the penalty spot after Amad was brought down by Matheus Nunes. Amad then inspired the comeback just moments later.

Here, MEN Sport has rounded-up the latest surrounding Rashford following his absence from the Manchester derby.

The Portuguese manager revealed his absence was not for disciplinary reasons. "It’s important to say why: was not a disciplinary thing," Amorim explained. "Next week, next game, new life, they are fighting for their places.

"But for me, it’s important: the performance in training, the performance in game, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with teammates, the way you push your teammates, everything is important in our context in the beginning of something when when we want to change a lot of things.

"When people in our club are losing their jobs we have to put the standards really high and for that they have to fight for a place in the team. And today the team proved we can leave anyone out of the squad and manage to win if you play together."

The striker has kept tight-lipped over his omission from the squad but took to Instagram immediately after the full-time whistle.
