Manchester United will be hoping to put a miserable 2024 behind them as they look towards a new year.

Ruben Amorim will know, however, that the start of 2025 is likely to represent more challenges, with league leaders Liverpool up next before an FA Cup trip to Arsenal. The Reds currently sit 14th in the top-flight table, their lowest position going into a new year since 1989.

But now the January transfer window is open, there will be some hope at Old Trafford that they can offload some of their underperforming stars to finance new additions. Among the players being linked with a move away from M16 are Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee.

In terms of potential incomings for January or the summer, Viktor Gyokeres continues to be mentioned with United badly in need of a consistent goalscorer. PSG defender Nuno Mendes is another player linked as Amorim looks to strengthen the wing-back position for his 3-4-3 system.

Manchester United are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes, it has been reported.

According to Fabrizio Romano on GiveMeSport, United are keen on adding the Portuguese defender to their squad as they look to strengthen that left wing-back position. With Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggling for form and fitness, Diogo Dalot has been often used in that position during Ruben Amorim's time in charge.

And Mendes has been identified as someone that could improve United on that side of the pitch. The 22-year-old - valued at £46million - has been a key member of the PSG squad since arriving from Sporting CP in 2022 and United feel he could be a useful addition to their ranks heading into the
