Why Marcus Rashford has apologised for his celebration in Manchester United vs Liverpool FC

Any player involved in a game pitting Manchester United against Liverpool is bound to get caught up in the emotion of the fixture.

After all, it is an iconic battle between two of English football's giants. Monday's meeting at Old Trafford was the sort of titanic clash watched all over the world, therefore, it is understandable if sometimes players let their emotions get the better of them.

Marcus Rashford has readily admitted that was the case for him. Rashford scored the crucial second goal in a 2-1 win - the first victory of the Erik ten Hag era. The joy was plain for all to see after Rashford slotted home with what was his first goal in seven months.

After clearly mouthing an expletive, which was caught on camera, during his goal celebration the United striker took to social media to apologise. He wrote on Twitter: "Please excuse my language it was just in the heat of the moment (laughing emoji)."

Rashford was not the only one to produce a faux pas on the night. Ten Hag also turned the air blue in the wake of the win over Jurgen Klopp's side.

“We played f***ing good football,” he said live on Sky Sports post-match, prompting host David Jones to offer an apology. United will be looking to make it back-to-back wins for the first time since February when they travel to Southampton on Saturday.
