Marcus Rashford has chance to prove Jose Mourinho wrong with his striker verdict

Marcus Rashford has enjoyed an impressive start to the season under Erik ten Hag, with the Manchester United striker registering three goals and two assists in his first six matches of the new campaign - with four of his appearances coming as a striker, and the other two coming on the left-wing.

The England international played the full 90 minutes as the Reds suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening two matches of the new season. Rashford, like many of his teammates, was criticised for his personal performance as Ten Hag's tenure as United boss began with losses to Brighton and Brentford.

Rashford endured a difficult campaign last term, recording just five goals and two assists in 32 appearances. The 24-year-old, by his own admission, knew that he needed to improve this season.

After an underwhelming start, the United man has been electric in recent weeks. He scored in the victory over Liverpool last month, helped himself to an assist against Leicester City and grabbed a brace and an assist against Arsenal in the 3-1 win.

Having started the first two matches of the season on the left flank, Rashford was moved to the central striker role against Jurgen Klopp's side. His impressive performance saw Ten Hag stick with him in attack, with Anthony Martial out injured and Cristiano Ronaldo having to settle for a spot amongst the substitutes.

The backing that the Reds boss has given Rashford is clearly having a positive impact on the Englishman, but his role in the side has still been questioned this season - and in previous years.
