Why Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard gave their Manchester United shirts to fans in Arsenal section

Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard were seen handing their match-worn Manchester United jerseys to youngsters following Saturday’s clash with Arsenal.

The pair both came off the bench during the contest but couldn’t prevent their team from falling to their fourth league away loss on the trot. Lingard is due to leave Old Trafford this summer upon the expiration of his contract while Rashford has been considering his future following an underwhelming campaign.

Anyhow, the duo haven't forgotten to be true to their roots despite the trials they are facing at United. They were seen giving their shirts to school-age children after the full-time whistle at the Emirates, fulfilling a promise they had made earlier in the day.

Daily Mail journalist Adrian Kajumba tweeted that members of Arsenal’s Under-Nines team had approached the England internationals pre-kick-off to ask for their jerseys after the game. Both agreed and stayed true to their word once the match was over.

Kajumba added that the gesture “Looked like they made the day for those kids.” It's not the first time Rashford has gone out of his way to put smiles on the faces of youngsters.

The 24-year-old famously and successfully challenged the government to reinstate and continue free school meals last year before setting up an initiative to help kids with money last month. In November, he received an MBE for his services towards his fight to end child poverty.
