Why Manchester United fans are protesting against the Glazers and what is planned vs Liverpool

Manchester United's supporters are planning another protest as they look to voice their displeasure with the Glazer family's ownership of the club. The Glazers have been in full control of United since 2005.

Poor performances on the pitch and a lack of leadership and direction off it have led to a breakdown in the relationship between the owners and fans.

United, who have not won the Premier League title since 2013, have regularly missed out on Champions League football in recent years and have not won a trophy since 2017.

The club have spent more than a billion pounds in transfer fees since 2013, and the vast majority of signings have failed to perform in the red shirt.

United's supporters are also angered by the fact that the Glazer family have reportedly taken £1.1billion out of the club in the last 17 years - which includes £743m in interest payments on the money they used to purchase the club.

The owners have paid themselves £133 million in dividends in the last 10 years. Old Trafford, once viewed as the elite stadium in England, is in desperate need of refurbishment. The facilities inside the ground have also come under criticism.

The European Super League fiasco only increased the anger within the club's fanbase, and with the Glazer family rarely in attendance at matches, their distant approach to running the club has led to calls for them to sell up and move on.

In recent weeks, reports have suggested that the Glazer family would be open to selling a small stake in the club, with Ineos owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe quick to express his interest in buying a stake in the club. The billionaire is from Greater Manchester.
