Why Man United great Gary Neville was spotted walking in Manchester with Olly Murs this week

Manchester United great Gary Neville has joined former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher in backing a new footballing charity 'Football for Change'.

Neville was spotted filming in Manchester with pop star Olly Murs (a fellow United fan) on Thursday, as the former Red joined co-chairman of the charity Carragher in helping raise money for the initiative.

Football for Change is a social mobility charity that was launched by Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, Wolves defender Conor Coady and Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin last year and has already raised more than £350,000. The charity are holding a major fundraising gala in the city next month as support for their work continues to grow.

Murs volunteered his time to work with Football for Change, as football stars from across the North West come together to detail the work the charity has achieved in a short space of time. Neville is well-known for offering his opinion outside of the world of football, and shared his reasons for getting involved with the initiative.

He said: "Young people need good role models and good influences, and Football for Change can offer that. The other two things they need is opportunity and belief. There is no negative to this initiative and what it is doing. It is all benefits.

"Governments around the world can use their resources more effectively, just like Football for Change are doing."
