Why Lisandro Martinez won't play for Manchester United vs Everton
Lisandro Martinez is set to miss Manchester United's game against Everton due to injury. Martinez has started each of Michael Carrick's five games in charge but will not be involved tonight.
United last played 13 days ago against West Ham at the London Stadium. Martinez started alongside Harry Maguire in central defence in that game and he played the full 90 minutes.
The Argentina international had started nine consecutive Premier League matches before picking up the injury. United can move three points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool if they beat Everton.
Martinez returned from a nine-month lay-off in November after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his left knee. The defender picked up that injury against Crystal Palace in February 2024.
Carrick has praised the partnership of Martinez and Maguire since his appointment. Last month, United kept a clean sheet against Manchester City, preventing Pep Guardiola's side from recording a shot on target.
