Why isn't Manchester United vs Sheffield United on TV? Decision explained for Premier League clash

Manchester United return to action on Wednesday night as they host relegation strugglers Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag's side avoided a dramatic FA Cup semi-final defeat to Championship side Coventry City on Sunday, after needing penalties to see off Mark Robins' side having been 3-0 up. United will face rivals Manchester City in the final on Saturday, May 25.

But attention will turn to league action for the time being as they look to win their first Premier League match in over a month. A 2-0 victory over Everton on March 9 was United's last victory in the league.

But United's clash against the Blades will not be shown on UK television, despite being held outside the blackout. This is because the game against Chris Wilder's side is a rescheduled fixture after United were involved in FA Cup action on Sunday, with the game initially not selected to be shown on TV.

The Red Devils are all but out of contention to finish in the top four and qualify for next season's Champions League. Ten Hag's team are currently 16 points off fourth-placed Aston Villa with six games left.

They will take on a Sheffield United side who are almost certain of a return to the Championship with the Blades bottom of the table and ten points from safety. The South Yorkshire club are without a victory since a 3-1 win at Luton Town on February 10.

When asked about Man United's hopes of securing European football, Ten Hag said on Tuesday: "Yes, but we have to win every game. That's what United stands for,
