Why Celtic WON'T splash £15m on 'quality' star despite closing in on skyrocketing Champions League jackpot

Former boss Neil Lennon reckons a £15million "quality" player WON'T want to come to Celtic and play in the Scottish Premiership.

Brendan Rodgers' has all-but secured the title after seeing off Rangers last Saturday to secure a six-point advantage at the summit - which will guarantee the Hoops a bumper cash windfall in the Champions League group stage. The revamped competition will see the 36 clubs who qualify for the league phase receive an entry fee of €18.62m per club – an increase of 20 per cent from last year's €15.64m.

Interest is ramping up in Matt O'Riley with the midfielder expected to command a hefty price tag should he leave Glasgow's east end - while Celtic could also land a sell-on windfall should a club meet Jeremie Frimpong's £34million Bayer Leverkusen release clause. Hoops' fans are now keen to see the club spend big in the summer - with many punters expecting Rodgers' return to Celtic Park to be followed by a major outlay to push on in Europe.
