WHU can sign their own Smith-Rowe with swoop for “explosive” gem, Moyes would love him - opinion

West Ham are reportedly interested in signing Sassuolo attacker Giacamo Raspadori this summer and he could prove to be David Moyes’ own version of Arsenal‘s Emile Smith-Rowe should he make the move to the London Stadium.

According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the Hammers have already seen a bid rejected for the exciting 22-year-old as Moyes looks to enhance his attacking options ahead of next season.

The Italy international enjoyed the best season of his career in 2021/22, contributing 10 goals and five goals in 36 Serie A appearances, with WhoScored awarding him a solid 6.75 rating for his performances.

Raspadori is capable of featuring anywhere in attack, so he could be an excellent backup for Michail Antonio next season. The Irons desperately need greater attacking depth if they are to push on from last season, and Moyes would surely love to have such a versatile young forward in his squad.

The Italian attacker has featured frequently on the left wing and likes to cut in on his stronger right foot, similar to Smith-Rowe.

According to FBRef, the England international is the fifth-most similar player to Raspadori in terms of style of play, with both ranking similarly in terms of shots on target, dribbles attempted and shot-creating actions per 90 minutes last season.

WhoScored also suggests that both Raspadori and Smith-Rowe like to perform lay-offs, while both struggle with aerial duels and crossing, so the similarities are clear to see.

Both players enjoyed breakthrough seasons, both were born in 2000 and both are full internationals, so West Ham would potentially be getting a very similar player to the Arsenal gem if they can bring Raspadori to the London Stadium this summer.
