Who was Lucrecia Perez? Her shocking murder in Madrid explained

The senseless murder of a black Dominican woman which sent shockwaves through Spain is at the centre of a new Disney+ series.

Lucrecia Perez was randomly shot dead while taking refuge in an abandoned Spanish nightclub in 1992. The mum-of-one's death was the country's first-recorded hate crime and sparked the biggest anti-racism protests Spain had ever seen, rippling across eight major cities.

Disney's Lucrecia: A Murder In Madrid features unpublished archive material and first-person testimonies, including from former vice president Narcís Serra and Lucrecia's daughter Kenia Carvajal Pérez. Kenia was just six years old when her mum died.
