Who is Gleison Bremer? The Brazilian centre-back attracting Newcastle and Liverpool's attention

Newcastle have been casting their eye over Gleison Bremer, Torino's Brazilian centre-back, in case their pursuit of Diego Carlos falls through. The January pursuit of the Sevilla defender was well documented but the Magpies were not able to agree a fee with the La Liga outfit.

With that in mind, they've cast their eye over another Brazilian who's making quite the name for himself in Serie A. Bremer came through the youth system at Atlético Mineiro before signing for Torino in 2018.

The 25-year-old has been made to bide his time before establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the division. So much so, that he's now attracting interest from Liverpool, Newcastle, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Bremer signed a five-year-deal with Torino and has made just shy of 100 appearances for Il Toro, scoring 11 goals from centre-back. Described as a physically strong centre-back with good aerial prowess and good speed, the Brazilian has drawn comparisons to former Inter Milan and Champions League winner Lucio.

Liverpool are reportedly willing to pay £25milllion for the Brazilian, according to the latest reports, but Chronicle Live revealed that the Magpies were also keen on the defender. However, both Jurgen Klopp's side and Arsenal see Bremer as back-up to their already established centre-half pairings, meaning Newcastle could jump up the queue.

Bremer has experience of playing in the Europa League with Torino as Wolves knocked the Serie A outfit out of the competition back in the 2019-20 season. The defender signed a contract extension in February, with his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2024.
