Who is Alejandro Garnacho? Manchester United youngster on bench vs Chelsea after training with Ronaldo and Messi

Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho could be set for his debut appearance for the first team this evening after being named on the bench to face Chelsea.

Garnacho, alongside Shola Shoretire, Alvaro Fernandez and Hannibal Mejbri, has been named on the bench as United struggle with injuries for the visit of the Blues. He has been named as an unused substitute in the last three matches for the Reds and fans of the Manchester club have been excited by his progress this season.

At just 17 years of age, Garnacho has managed to break into United's U23s and become a key member of Neil Wood's side since joining from Atletico Madrid two years ago. Back in March, Garnacho trained alongside Lionel Messi after receiving a shock call-up to the Argentina national team having not yet made a first-team appearance for the Reds.

Garnacho made his way to the forefront for most United fans thanks to his exploits in their run to the FA Youth Cup final. United have tried their best to protect the teenager from the limelight to allow him to grow as a player.

After scoring against Chelsea's U23s, academy manager Wood said: "He’s been doing really well, he’s done well in the Youth Cup. Some of the games with the 23s have been challenging for him, he did well on Friday but he’s coming up against more physical players, faster players and stronger players, that’s what is coming towards him, he’s not going to play
