Manchester United will set Premier League record with trip to Crystal Palace

Manchester United's trip to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace will officially be the longest gap a club has had between their final home fixture and their last game of a Premier League season.

By the time they make their trip to Croydon, it will have been 20 days since United's comfortable win over Brentford, coming to within a day of Tottenham's 21-day gap in 1989, according figures released by ManUtd.com. United were due to host Chelsea on the penultimate day of the season but due to their involvement in the FA Cup final, the clash was rescheduled to the end of April.

The Bees' visit to Old Trafford brought the curtain down on the home campaign as Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane all found the back of the net. United's final outing of the 2021/22 campaign is on May 22.

Sandwiched between the win over Thomas Frank's side and Crystal Palace was the dismal 4-0 defeat to Brighton. United will have 15 days to have the result festering before they look to end the season on a high and pour cold water on a successful first season in charge for Patrick Vieira.

United fans have at least had something to shout about since, after the club's U18s ended the 10-year wait to win the FA Youth Cup honour. The young reds triumphed over Nottingham Forest in front of a sold-out Old Trafford crowd.
