Who has the most wins at the Bahrain Grand Prix since its 2004 debut?

The 2022 Formula 1 season kicks off this weekend as the Bahrain Grand Prix takes place at the Sakhir circuit.

Bahrain has hosted the curtain-raiser before, including in 2021 with Australia off of the calendar thanks to the pandemic, and keeps the honour for 2022 despite the return of Albert Park which will host the Australian Grand Prix on April 10th.

Bahrain has been on the calendar since 2004 and recently announced a new contract with Formula 1 to ensure the race remains a fixture for at least the next 15 years, proving it has become a modern staple for the F1 circus.

It was Michael Schumacher who won the first race and, in the years since, we’ve seen some great Grands Prix with the switch to holding the race under the floodlights seemingly improving the spectacle no-end in the more recent past.

Who has won the race the most, though? We take a look…

Four drivers have won in Bahrain more than once and three of them are on the grid this year.

Felipe Massa has two wins, whilst Fernando Alonso has won in Bahrain three times, with the last of those victories coming in 2010 for Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel has four Bahrain victories to his name and is the last man to be top of the podium in Sakhir that isn’t Lewis Hamilton – ignoring the Sakhir Grand Prix on the short circuit at the same venue that was won by Sergio Perez in 2020.

Indeed, Hamilton has the most victories with 5 and he’ll be eager to add to that this season, though he has played down Mercedes’ early-season chances after testing.
