Who gets £150 disability payment as DWP confirm when it will land in bank accounts

Millions of people in the UK living with a disability will be eligible for a one-off, tax-free payment in September.

Earlier this year, ex-Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the payment as part of a £15 billion cost of living support package. The payment is intended to target the most vulnerable households in the country that are likely struggling to cope with the cost of living crisis plaguing the country.

It comes after growing concerns surrounding skyrocketing bills during the winter period, with some experts suggesting that annual energy bills could rise to well above £5,000. However, not everyone will be eligible for the £150 disability payment and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has laid out some clear guidelines.

Minister for disabled people, health and work Chloe Smith previously said: “We know disabled people can face additional costs, which is why we are acting to help reduce the financial pressures on the most vulnerable. This £150 disability payment is on top of the £1,200 most low-income benefit claimants will also receive and alongside wider support targeted at disabled people, including help with transport and prescription costs.

“We know it’s a worrying time for some people and I’d urge them to check they are getting all the support on offer by searching Help for Households.”

In order to be eligible, you must be receiving one of the following:

Claimants must have received one of these benefits by May 25 this year in order to qualify for the disability payment. Furthermore, the payment will be separate from any existing benefits you may receive and will not count towards the benefit cap.
