Who does Joe Hart play for and why is ex-England goalkeeper on BBC Sport for Euro 2024? Man City exit explained

There will be a familiar face on BBC Sport when England open their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia tonight.

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Hart called time on his illustrious career this summer, and has taken his first steps towards a post-playing career in the media by quickly signing for BBC Sport as a pundit during the Euros.

Hart, 37, says he wants to shine a light on the art of goalkeeping during the summer and has plenty of recent experience of competing in tournaments with England - playing in two World Cups and two Euros between 2010 and 2016 for the Three Lions.

After leaving City in 2018 following a 12-year association with the club, winning five major trophies, Hart joined Burnley for a two-year spell before a year at Tottenham. The stopper then made the move north to Celtic, where he would make over 150 appearances in a three-year period and pick up another seven trophies.

Hart has a training pitch named after him at City in recognition of his service to the club, and Pep Guardiola credits him with a pivotal role in launching the Blues to their current trajectory. However, it was a falling out with Guardiola when the Catalan arrived in 2016 that signalled the end of his Etihad career, with the manager quickly deciding that he needed a goalkeeper more adept at playing with his feet.

Despite pleas from the City fans at the start of Guardiola's debut campaign to maintain Hart's position in the team, the goalkeeper was loaned out to Torino in 2016/17, followed by a year at West Ham before his permanent exit
