Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth previews their match against Dean Brennan’s Barnet in League 2 – It’ a 12.30pm kick-off this Saturday at Priestfield Stadium
Gillingham are expecting a similar challenge for the second week running, and the manager hopes they can stay in control this time around.
Manager Gareth Ainsworth had to switch his formation on a couple of occasions last Saturday against Crawley Town, after struggling to contain them at times, his team settling with a point after a 2-2 draw.
Last weekend’s visitors Crawley are the division’s possession specialists and Barnet like to play a similar kind of game. Ainsworth says there were lessons from that last match that he hopes to put right this time around.
He said: “It won't be the same as Crawley, but I think it's another team that do like having the ball and we've got to make sure that we make the most of the ball when we have it.
“It's different every week, and I think the boys know that every week I tweak things and we slightly make adjustments because something's gone wrong or the opposition were playing.
“Momentum's great in football and when it's going well, you don't have to tweak too much.
“Last week, just losing a bit of control of the game, I thought at times we needed to change and that's been on my mind from last week. So there's things that I want to do this Saturday that hopefully will rectify that.”
Barnet have settled in well since winning their place back in the Football League, coming up as champions of the National League last season.
Dean Brennan’s side are just three points worse off than the Gills.
Ainsworth, whose side are at the bottom end of the division’s possession table, said: “I'm looking forward to pitting my wits again against a manager who does like to keep possession of the ball and try and play a certain way.
“You've also got to respect that way because they've earned some good
