Whitstable Town appoint former Ramsgate and Welling United boss Lee Martin as new manager ahead of club’s Isthmian South East return after controversial exits of Margate-bound duo Jamie Coyle and Matt Longhurst
Whitstable Town have wasted little time in naming a new boss.
Less than four days after it was confirmed Jamie Coyle and No.2 Matt Longhurst have controversially left the Oystermen for rivals Margate, Lee Martin was appointed as Whitstable’s new manager on Monday evening.
Martin was in charge of Isthmian Premier Ramsgate but was dismissed - hours after a 1-0 Velocity Cup final extra-time 1-0 defeat against Aveley - last month.
He joins the Oystermen as they prepare for their Isthmian South East return for the first time since 2022.
“I’m delighted to be appointed manager of Whitstable Town Football Club,” said Martin, who also managed Welling United during the 2025/26 campaign.
“This is a club that has clearly been on a fantastic journey in recent years and I’m excited to now be part of that.
“The progress made, on and off the pitch, is clear to see and there is a real ambition here to keep moving the club forward in the right way.
“I know the challenge that lies ahead as we step into the Isthmian South East league but it’s one I am really looking forward to. There is a strong foundation at the club, a passionate supporter base, and a real community feel around Whitstable Town.
“My focus now is on building a competitive squad, setting high standards, and making sure we are ready for the season ahead.
“I cannot wait to get started.”
In a statement, Whitstable said “the club believes Lee’s knowledge, standards, professionalism and understanding of this level of football make him the right person to lead the team forward” as they aim to build on their recent success.
They won the Southern Counties East League Premier Division title by 19 points under Coyle and Longhurst, completing the double as they beat Punjab United 2-0
