Steven Gerrard's honeymoon period is over at Aston Villa after two straight defeats to Newcastle and Watford.

Villa made an encouraging start under their new boss, but recent defeats have blotted Gerrard's first three months in charge.

He has demanded that his players "wake up fast" ahead of a crucial run of futures which could define how the club ends the season.

Villa have only won one of their last seven games having also failed to beat the likes of Leeds and Brentford since the turn of the New Year.

Gerrard and his squad still have a game in hand on some of the sides around them as they look to climb the table.
